Tech Tips: How recover your Gmail password using your cellphone

Written by | Tech

Here’s a nifty tip that all you Forgetful JOEs can use. Google has added a new password recovery feature that will allow us to recover our password using our cellphone. Of course, like all features we need to enable this feature.

To enable the password recovery feature:
1. Login to account (not the gmail account), if you are already logged in to your gmail account then just click on the WEB link that you will see on the top most part of your Gmail screen.

2. Once you are on your page, click on the MY ACCOUNT that you will see on the upper right corner of the page, it’s right beside the SIGN OUT link.

3. You will now see the “Change password recovery options” under the Personal Settings.

4. You may be asked for your password to enter the Password Recovery Options page. Once there just click on the “Add a mobile phone number.” link then select your country and your cellphone number on the text box and make sure you place a check on the “Use this phone number for password recovery via text message.” check box.

Just to test how the SMS password thingy works, a recovery code will be sent to your phone and you will need to go to the “RESET PASSWORD” process by clicking on the link provided.

You will be directed “Reset your Password” where you need to type the recovery code that was sent to your cellphone. From there you can create a new password for your Google account.

The whole reset password via SMS only took me less than 2 minutes. A nifty feature indeed!!! 🙂
