Samsung Corby Pro (B5310) Review

Written by | Gadgets, Review, Tech

I’ve been using the Samsung Corby Pro (B5310) for a couple of weeks now and I what I’ve found is that it’s better than what I expected it to be. Let me tell you something about the Corby Pro. The Samsung Corby Pro (B5310) is one of the many models that evolved from the original Samsung Corby (S3653), they’re Samsung CorbyTXT (B3210), Corby Beat (M3710), Corby Plus (B3410), Corby Wifi (S3653W), Corby TV, Corby Pop (C3510) and Corby Mate (B3313).

The Samsung Corby Pro (B5310) is a perfect phone for the Social Network Site (SNS) addicts, person who cannot live without their email, SNS as well as those who loves to takes random pictures every now and then.

When you first use the Samsung Corby Pro (B5310), you will notice that it has a very thick, which is 15.68 mm to be exact. That’s understandable when you consider the addition slider QWERTY keyboard but you can also use the on-screen keyboard with its TFT resistive touchscreen. The accelerometer only activates when you use the slide-out keyboard, then the keyboard are properly arrange and even though they are small for my somewhat big fingers, you can still use the QWERTY keyboard.

The slider form factor is well designed and crafted, even if the all plastic body is glossy, you will still have a firm grip on the phone. With it’s TFT resistive touchscreen, the response of the application are average while you still have the protective film but when you remove the screen protector, you will notice a significant improvement on the touch screen response of the phone.

If you compare Samsung Corby Pro (B5310) to other touch screen device, you will notice that the Samsung Corby Pro (B5310) has a smaller screen than others, I’ve compare Samsung Corby Pro (B5310) to LG KP500 Cookie and iPod Touch 8 GB.

The built-in email program support both the POP3 and IMAP protocol. Though you can easily access your email using the Dolphin browser. While I like all the pre-installed apps in the phone, I still think that Samsung should have placed at least 3 games that are full version, since all games are trial version. Also the Samsung apps store (, only caters for OMNIA line only. The phones also have a lot of SNS apps like facebook, twitter, friendster, myspace, bebo, fotki and online digital photo and video sharing sites like flickr, photobucket, picasa and youtube.

You can also watch video on the phones as long as they are in Divx, mp4 and 3GP, it also records video (QVGA@15fps). It also supports video phone using the second camera that you see on the upper left corner of the phone while the camera 3 MP at the back can capture image in either Single/ Multiple/ smile/panorama mode with multiple photo effects (Black and white/Negative/Sepia).

Here’s a low light video that I took using the phone.

The music player is there for you to abuse and play all the music that you can fit on the 8 GB expanded memory. The player supports multiple audio format like MP3, AMR , AAC, AAC+, e-AAC+, WMA using either the loud speaker or the 3.5 mm audio jack for private listening.

Below are sample pictures that I took using the Samsung Corby Pro (B5310).

Samsung Corby Pro (B5310) supports multiple connectivity like Quadband (GSM & EDGE), 3G, Bluetooth 2.0, WAP, WIFI and data connection is also available using the USB 2.0 connection and the Samsugn Kies.

Overall, the Samsung Corby Pro (B5310) can cater to a lot of users, it can be anywhere between Facebook (friendster) generation and young professionals that has a lot of multimedia consumptions. Like it’s hybrid form factor, the Samsung Corby Pro (B5310) features is already comparable to a smartphone but will not burn a hole in your pocket. The base price for Samsung Corby Pro (B5310) is Php 11,950 but on some stores you can get it as low as 10k and as high as 12k.

Pretty nice phone indeed. I haven't used it just yet but from what hearing from my friends it is good for social networking but some of the java files are not supported in it. The java games mostly looks weired on it.

So far.. the reception of the phone is very good.. even if you only have one bar for the signal, it still usable not like other phones where you need atleast 3 bars.

Plus the WiFi connection is also seamless!! 🙂

got this phone about 2 days ago. this is probably one of the best phones i've owned. i love the qwerty keypad and touchscreen combination. better than the iphone in my opinion when it comes to texting. got mine for P10,800.

  11. Teknisyan says:

wow… thanks.. it's a nice phone… you can say it just within the high end spectrum of smartphone but still within the price range of mid-end smartphone. 🙂 Yeah.. the prices should be going down by now.. since samsung have been introducing new models.
