Canon EOS 500D vs Canon EOS 550D vs Nikon D5000

Written by | Tech

I previously posted a comparison chart between the Canon 500D and the Nikon D5000, which showed us the difference between the two camera atleast what’s writted in paper. Since then canon released on what people considered as the “baby 7D” the Canon 550D a.k.a. Rebel T2i.

Since then people have been comparing the both siblings Canon 500D and Canon 550D. Any I created or updated my chart for Canon 500D and Nikon D5000, then included the one for Canon 550D. You won’t believe what I saw, by the way, I highlighted the features/specs that the Canon 550D and 500D shares. This way you can focus on what main different. 🙂

You can also access the HTML version of the comparison chart here.

As you can see the 500D and 550D are almost identical, while there are difference they’re not major nor minor difference between the two products, which I’m not sure justify the price discrepancy of Php 6,000.00 ~ Php 7,000.00. From the chart, you can also see that there are specs/ features on the Nikon D5000 that even surpass both Canon, like the Continuous Shooting, Focus Area, while these are still debatable.

Anyhow, I’ll leave the verdict to you.. to determine which of the trio is the best. Of course we can never day once these camera are in the hands of a trained photographer. 🙂

  1. This is such a wonderful review! I think choosing a DSLR should not be as simple as looking at the functions and megapixels. It is much more than that.

I am thinking of getting an entry level DSLR this week and my choice is between the Nikon D5000 and Canon EOS 550D T2i. I still can't decide what to get but they are both one of the best in their class of DSLR cameras.

Which one do you suggest then? And which of the two has cheaper accessories and lens?

Thanks for the comment and this is not a review just a comparison chart between cameras. About your question… I personally will go for the Nikon D5000 cheaper but capture high quality image. That's just for me, since I've used Nikon camera's before and I also have a Canon 50D, which is also a very nice camera… of course 50D is different from Canon 550D. 🙂

For the accessories… that depends on where you're buying your lenses and accessories.
