Death of Kin

Written by | Tech

Microsoft recently released a statement via CNET that they’ll no longer ship KIN to Eaurope and will most likely to just let the current model to run out.

“We have made the decision to focus exclusively on Windows Phone 7 and we will no longer ship KIN in Europe this fall as planned,” the company said in a statement given to “Additionally, we are integrating our KIN team with the Windows Phone 7 team, incorporating valuable ideas and technologies from KIN into future Windows Phone releases. We will continue to work with Verizon in the U.S. to sell current KIN phones.”

Kin is just two months old which was introduced by Microsoft last April 12, 2010 and is the fruit of Microsoft after they bought Danger which is sidekick’s maker. There were many innovative features to Kin, but some critized the phone to have been missing a few features like calendar and pricey plans, that resulted to low sales output.

The Kin Team will join the Window Phone 7 to integrate features and inovations on future release of the Window Phone 7 mobile OS.

I guess we won’t be seeing KIN in the Philippines anytime soon. Unless of course they plan to bring all those unsold units here. 🙂

The Kin might have been a testbed for their UI, which i recall similar to WinMo7. This is also similar to the ZuneHD that's also catered locally in the US.

Recently, we are seeing the Zune platform being integrated on various MS devices including the Xbox360, we might also see this on future Windows Media Center, or perhaps in Windows Media Player itself.
