Intel acquires Mcafee for $7.68 billion

Written by | Tech

Intel last Thursday (8/19/2010) announced that it will acquire Mcafee for a whopping $7.68 billion cash. Intel said that they see security as critical part to computing as performance and connectivity and they (Intel) plan to integrate Mcafee with its hardware and expand further into the mobile market.

This is somewhat new for Intel where they usually acquires other hardware and software company that usually related to it’s chip/hardware strategy. With Mcafee, they’ll try to shift the security more into the hardware level and most likely less in software level. But I don’t see any other chip company (AMD?) to acquire another security firm.

But who knows, right?. 🙂
