Looks like Facebook is trying to protect it’s (good?) name by filing a trademark for the word “Face” and going after sites with “Book” in them. First reported by TechCrunch, Facebook has filed for a trademark for the word “Face” and they already own trademark on “Facebook” which understandable.
Owning a trademark with something important to a company; to protect their brands, product and the company itself. This also helps facebook fend of people who wants to use your trademark for their own gain.
By definition (wikipedia):
A trademark or trade mark is a distinctive sign or indicator used by an individual, business organization, or other legal entity to identify that the products or services to consumers with which the trademark appears originate from a unique source, and to distinguish its products or services from those of other entities.
Since “Face”generic name used by billions of people, no word if the US Patent and Trademark Office (UPTO) will approve or deny the claim. But if Facebook do get the trademark for “Face” then it spell trouble for companies that has the word as their company name, service or products.
I guess it will be waiting game if it get approve or not. What do you think? Will Facebook own the trademark for “Face” or not?
obviously the image is own by facebook
