ALFA Networks USB WiFi Adaptor for a stronger WiFi

Written by | Tech

If you’re relying on free wifi like one on cafes, malls and your neighbors but you are not getting a good signal then you may want to consider getting a wifi antenna to pickup a much stronger signal. One that I already tried is the ALFA Networks USB WiFi Adaptor (AWUS036H), not sure why they call it adaptor but it looks more of an antenna to me.

I tested on how the antenna affects the connection of the laptop and here are the results, I even tested the connection speed via Speedtest.Net and 2wire.com.

The Speedtest showed different connection speed, however the WiFi signal clearly improved after I connected the ALFA Networks USB WiFi Adaptor (AWUS036H), and I further test the page load and download time and it clearly improved. Of course there are other factors that you need to consider when connected to a Wifi network, like the interference that can greatly affect the connection speed, so I would suggest that you try to minimize the interference to your wifi connection.

The price for the ALFA Networks USB WiFi Adaptor (AWUS036H) is SR 80 to SR 85.00 here in KSA but checking online retailers like Amazon, they’re selling it for $39.95 a box.
