Google Maps or WikiMapia: Which one do you prefer?

Written by | Tech

As you all know, I’m currently in Riyadh and have been to Al Khobar a couple of times. Which is at least 4 hours drive and with an average speed of 130 kph and the trip is basically across the Arabian desert.

Out of curiosity I look up the distance from Riyadh to Al Khobar and vice versa using Google Maps and WikiMapia and I find is a little intriguing that Wikimapia is powered by Google maps but the images of WikiMapia looks a lot better than that of the Google Maps. You can checkout the screen-shot below.

My friends are equally divided when asked and in using the two web sites, if they cannot find the information on Google Maps they go to Wikimapia, if not on WikiMapia they go Google Maps. I’m just curious to know which service / web site you prefer is it WikiMapia or Google maps? And which one do you think is better? I’d like to hear from you. Feel free to place your comment below.

By the way, the distance that you will travel from Riyadh to Al Khobar is approximately 394 km and that’s according to Google Maps. 🙂
