Sony Gulf Unveils 3D Blu-ray Disc Player in Middle East

Immersive 3D Content Playback and Advanced Multimedia Features to Redefine Home Entertainment with Full HD Blu-ray Experience

Dubai-UAE: 31 August, 2010 – Sony Gulf, the regional arm of consumer electronics giant Sony, today announced the launch of its 3D Blu-ray disc player – BDP-S470, making a consumer’s dream of enjoying 3D Blu-ray movies in Full HD a reality.

Featuring Internet connectivity with Wi-Fi and access to full-screen videos through the Sony BRAVIA Internet Video platform, the 3D Blu-ray disc player allows users to experience multimedia entertainment in the comfort of their homes. It also includes an Entertainment Database Browser that lets users access related content.

The BDP-S470 can play 3D Blu-ray disc movies on compatible 3D TVs. Sony uses advanced picture technology and specialist Active Shutter glasses to create realistically deep, crisp and vivid Full HD 3D images. Adding to the already available Full HD content, the new BDP-S470 can instantly stream movies, videos and music when connected to a broadband network, offering a range of popular online content through Sony’s BRAVIA Internet Video platform.

The BDP-S470 also incorporates Sony’s Entertainment Database Browser using Gracenote™ technologies that enables users to browse details such as actor and production information from a Blu-ray disc and access related content on the BRAVIA Internet Video platform. Its Wi-Fi-ready function offers convenient Internet connections using the optional BRAVIA USB Wi-Fi dongle or LAN, which lets viewers use the Blu-ray disc player to surf movies, videos, music, as well as the BRAVIA Internet Video content.

Users can simply plug an external hard disk drive or any USB-enabled device into the front or rear USB ports of the Blu-ray disc player to enjoy movies, music or photos through the TV or home theatre system. Blu-ray compatibility has been extended to an even larger range of file types, including DivX HD, SA-CD and MKV formats, making it easier for users to share personal entertainment throughout the home.

The Blu-ray disc player can also be easily controlled with an iPhone® Touch device, using a free application called ‘BD Remote’ that can be downloaded from the Apple App store. The application can convert an iPhone Touch into a remote control with the ability to access a Blu-ray disc’s details such as jacket artwork, actor, and production information, as well as search for additional video clips online.

Sony’s latest Blu-ray disc player also offers improved boot-up and disc-loading performance. When the Quick Start feature is turned on, the BDP-S470 is able to boot up in three seconds and, depending on a disc, the loading time is significantly shorter compared to previous models.

Additionally, the BDP-S470 boasts Sony’s impressive Monolithic Design concept and complements the latest BRAVIA 3D TV range. Composed of luxurious materials and a beautiful surface finish, the Monolithic Design concept is a distinctive feature of Sony’s new home entertainment line-up for 2010. The new Blu-ray disc player is built to blend in gracefully with any interior design and create a sense of space.

To fully enjoy Sony’s unparalleled world of 3D, consumers can simply combine BRAVIA’s Full HD 3D TV and 3D Blu-ray disc player or Blu-ray home theatre system via a high speed HDMI cable, and play back 3D contents to enjoy the incredible visual and sound effects of Sony 3D entertainment in the comfort of their homes.
