Anybody reading this post uses a Samsung Laptop R525 and R540 in particular? If “YES!”, then you may want to read or follow the case of Mohamed Hassan, where he discovered a keylogger was installed on his brand new Samsung R525 and R540 laptops.
Mohamed discovered that the StarLogger software is installed in the c:\windows\SL folder of the new laptops and when he reported this to Samsung, here’s what the supervisor told him.
Samsung did knowingly put this software on the laptop to, as he put it, “monitor the performance of the machine and to find out how it is being used.”
A pretty generic response and another response from Samsung but this time it was a comment to an Engadget inquiry:
“Samsung takes Mr. Hassan’s claims very seriously. After learning of the original post this morning on NetworkWorld.com, we launched an internal investigation into this issue. We will provide further information as soon as it is available.”
This is surely a CS/PR’s nightmare and will be an ugly courtroom drama if Samsung did not clarify the issue.
I’ll try to keep you updated on this issue, if not better hit the source link below, since they have more resources than me. 🙂
