In the advent of Google Plus, it appears Google will re-brand the name Blogger and Picasa, and will now call them “Google Photos” for Picasa and Blogger will become “Google Blogs”. Of course the name Google Photos and Google Blogs are unofficial name, but we the re-branding pattern of Google made with their past acquisition, you will see why the name Google Photos and Google Blogs.
When Google acquired JotSpot in 2006, they renamed it to Google Sites. Then last 2009 they snag VOIP platform GrandCentral and called Google voice. So it’s only local to call Picasa as Google Photos and Blogger as Google blogs. Since Google already shutdown Google Video last May, it appears Youtube is in the clear.
It’s not clear what will happen to the current blogspot.com URL once the rebranding has been rolled-out. A lot of users will sure be disappointed if the re-branding will affect the “page rankings” of these blogspot.com blogs.
A little background:
Picasa acquired by Google on 2004 from Idealab, Picasa is a software for organizing, viewing and editing digital photos, it also has a photo-sharing website Picasa Web Albums.
Blogger a hosted blog service created by Pyra Labs, which was bought by Google in 2003.
