I’ve been reading a number of ebooks and sites on how to fully utilize my adsense account. It turns out, I’m not using my adsense account to the fullest, it’s not just creating the adsense ads, search, feeds, domain and mobile content and displaying it on your sites/blogs, there are other things that I must do to make sure that my account (adsense) is protected, optimized and filtered. I’ve had my adsense account for more than 3 years now but it appears that I’m not protecting it by creating a whitelist or setup “Allowed Sites” list.
Allowed sites is a list of URLs that are allowed to display Google ads for your account. If you place your ads on a page not on this list, ads will still show, but impressions and clicks will not be recorded. This will also protect your account from being stolen, since your Adsense ID can easily be retrieve just by looking at the source code of the page where you placed your ads. Just image what would happen if someone used your Adsense ID then used it on sites that clearly violates the Google Adsense Terms of Service.
Here are the steps to create your own white list or setup your Allowed sites list.
1. After logging in to your Adsense account, go to the Adsense Setup Tab then at the right most end click on the ALLOWED SITES.
2. Select the option “Only allow certain sites to show ads for my account’ then on the text box below “List your allowed URLs, one per line: ” just type the domain of the sites where your ads will be displayed. No need to add the “http” or the “www” of the URL except if you have sub domain like “blog.pnoy.me” or “abielonline.blogspot.com“.
3. Just click on the SAVE CHANGES button for the changes to take effect.
From time to time, Google Adsense will show you sites where your ads are being displayed but not in the white list, so if you forgot to add those site you can just add them to your white list.
