TV5 and Metro Manila Development Authrority’s (MMDA) Traffic Navigator (TNav) project was awarded recently as the “Information Technology (IT) Product of the Year” at the annual CyberPress IT Awards.
First launched about six months ago to empower motorists in the Metro Manila by giving 24/7 traffic update, TNav bested other nominees in the award namely the Apple iPad 2, Epson’s new Ink Tank Printers, Smart Communications’ Net Phone and “Ultrabooks” powered by Intel chipsets.
TNav is a traffic monitoring service covering nine major roads in the Metro such as EDSA, C5, Roxas Boulevard, Quezon Avenue, Commonwealth Avenue, España, Ortigas Avenue, Marcos Highway and South Luzon Expressway (SLEx). The service is being updated every 5 to 15 minutes using resources provided by MMDA Metro Base.
The award is TNav’s second since it was released in June 29th. Last August, the traffic monitoring service bagged the Bronze Boomerang for Innovation at the 2011 Boomerang event organized by the Internet and Mobile Marketing Association of the Philippines (IMMAP).
TNav is being hosted by TV5’s online news portal InterAksyon.com and is also available in applications for iOS. iPhone, iPod and iPad users can get the free app by downloading the InterAksyon App.
