CES 2012: Acer announces that world’s thinnest laptop

Written by | Dev and Design

Most of the tech blog that I’m following are all saying this is the year where “Ultrabooks” takes-off, so Acer is kicking it off by announcing the world’s thinnest laptop; the Aspire S5. The Acer Aspire S5 measures 15 mm on it’s thinnest side, weighing less than 3 lbs and will have a 13.3-inch (34 cm) LCD display.

With its Acer Green Instant On technology for fast boot, the Aspire S5 can wake up in 1.5 secs. and has a battery like that can last for weeks. It will also has an input/output panel that will be concealed below the hinges that will have ports like; HDMI®, USB 3.0 and 20 Gbps Thunderbolt. The Aspire S5 will be powered by Intel’s Core™ processor, SSD storage, professionally-tuned Dolby® Home Theater® v4, PowerSmart battery pack, a chiclet keyboard then wrap all that in a magnesium-aluminum alloy cover (in Onyx Black).

The Aspire S5 will be available on the 2nd quarter of 2012. No word about the price and considering that Windows 8 will be release by Microsoft later this year, Aspire S5 will most likely be running Windows 7. You can read the full PR here.
