CES 2012: Gorilla Glass 2: 20% thinner and stronger!

Corning the makers of the Gorilla Glass that’s is used by Apple in their iOS Devices and most mobile phone manufacturer like for it’s strength, scratch resistance and thinness, just demoed it’s next product the Gorilla Glass 2. The Gorilla Glass 2 is 20% thinner but retain that strong and scratch resistance characteristics. Video after the break.

According to Corning “Corning Gorilla Glass 2 enables up to a 20 percent reduction in glass thickness, while maintaining the industry-leading damage resistance, toughness, and scratch resistance customers have come to expect from the world’s most widely deployed cover glass. The thinner Gorilla Glass 2 enables slimmer and sleeker devices, brighter images, and greater touch sensitivity. These benefits can provide electronics manufacturers with superior design flexibility as they address consumer demand for increasingly high-performing, touch-sensitive, and durable mobile devices.”

The thinner Gorilla Glass 2 will allow phone manufacturer to create slimmer and sleeker devices, with brighter images, and greater touch sensitivity. Expect devices uses Gorilla Glass 2 by 2nd quarter of this year. If you’re not familiar with Corning, then you must be familiar with Corelle dinning sets, Pyrex glassware and Pyroceram glass-ceramic cookware.
