WikiMedia Foundation raises a record-breaking $20 million

Written by | Internet

Today will be the last day of the annual fund raising campaign of Wikimedia Foundation and they recently announced that they’ve raised a record $20 million (USD) from more than 1 million donors. To date, this is the highest donation Wikimedia has ever received, since they started raising funds for the foundation in 2003.

Wikimedia Foundation also shared a number of stats; like 470 million people visits Wikimedia web sites and number of donors increased ten-fold since 2008, including the total dollar amount raised in the campaign has risen to over $20 million from $4.5 million. Not bad for a non-profit foundation and the only web site supported by donations from readers.

If you like to know how Wikimedia will spend those $20 million, then you can visit their 2011-2012 Annual Plan here.
