HTC Windows Phone 8X and Windows Phone 8S announced

In an HTC event in New York together Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, HTC announces what they’re calling the “iconic” Windows Phone, these of course will be HTC’s smartphone lineup that will be running Windows Phone 8 Mobile OS. The event itself did not provide much detail about HTC Windows Phone 8X and Windows Phone 8S, but more of a tour on how HTC designed the two said device.

The first that was introduces was the the Windows Phone 8X; a 4.3 smartphone protected by a Gorilla® Glass 2 with a super LCD 2 touch screen with HD 720p resolution and 10.12 mm thick (thin), it is powered by a Dual-core Qualcomm® S4 1.5 GHz processor and 8 megapixel camera with auto focus and a f2.0 aperture and 28mm lens and a dedicated HTC ImageChip, the 8X audio on the other hand is powered by a studio-quality sound with Beats Audio™ built in. HTC also said that the camera in the 8X uses the same technology that’s in HTC One X.

Then there’s the Windows Phone 8S which is (spec wise) similar to the 8X with a few differences with the screen size and resolution, camera, the RAM and the NFC feature was removed. The HTC Windows Phone 8S features a 4″ LCD touch screen that will have a WVGA resolution, the 512 MB RAM, SD card slot supports micro™ SD memory and it only has one camera 5 MP camera that’ll only capable of 720p video recording. It’s great to point out that another key specs that’s missing, is the LTE connectivity which is a standard on most smartphone today. Plus not everyone is biting the “iconic Windows Phones” gimmick, since a writer at TC points out that the 8S is a large step down from HTC’s 8X hero device.
