SMART Communications and Globe Telecom, after having introduced an upgraded network service by offering Long Term Evolution (LTE) in the country, are now taking the next big step to expand its market. Today, both companies declared it have partnered with foreign telecommunication networks for LTE roaming service.
LTE roaming service also known as LTE roaming interconnect link is a service that allow subscribers of one network operator connect to subscribers under another network in a different country. With LTE roaming service, people can enjoy faster communication and hopefully a cheaper rate as well. This service is expected to benefit mainly Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and Tourists in the country.
Globe Telecom announced today it had partnered with China-based telecommunication company, China Mobile Hong Kong Co. Ltd. The partnership allows Globe roaming subscribers enjoy the same fast LTE data connection service offered by Globe. The company also plans to partner with South Korea’s, SK Telecom and reach farther to Singapore, Australia, US, Canada, Japan, and Middle East soon.
SMART Communications on the other hand already partnered with Singapore-based telecommunication company, StarHub. It proudly announced that the company was the first to partner with a foreign company with regards to the LTE roaming service.
Smart Executive Vice President and Head of Wireless Consumer Division Emmanuel Lorenzana in a statement said,
“After being the first and only telco to commercially launch a multiband LTE offering in the Philippines, Smart solidifies its dominance in the LTE space by being the first Philippine telco to set up an interconnect link with a foreign operator.”
SMART communications also plans to partner with other Telco providers in nearby countries including Japan (NTT Docomo), Hong Kong (Hutchison Telecommunications) and South Korea (KT Corp).
