In a blog post, David Law — Director, Product Management, Outlook.com, announced that Outlook.com now has more than 25 million active users where a third of them are Gmail users. The two month old email service was a created to lure Gmail users to switch and to keep unsatisfied Hotmail user from jumping ship, and it looks like Outlook.com’s clean UI, better spam filter and easy sharing features paid off, since “4 out of 5 of these Gmail users said they would switch to Outlook.com.” after using the service for 5 days.
Microsoft have been busy adding and enhancing more feature for Outlook.com, features like; One-click Archive, more keyboard shortcuts and additional color themes. These may just be minor enhancement but Microsoft is doing this to keep Outlook.com users happy and probably convert a number of new Gmail users a long the way.
Microsoft also announced the Android app for Outlook.com that support Exchange ActiveSync. The app is free and you can use it if you’re using Android 2.x devices and higher. You can download the Outlook android app here.
I’ve been using Outlook.com now as a replacement for Hotmail.com and so far Microsoft is right on the money regarding their clean UI and sharing options. Though I’m not sure if I can permanently switch to Outlook.com yet. I guess I need more time to decide. 🙂
