Remember HTC “Myst”? It looks like the “fabled” Facebook Phone will actually see the light of day, since Facebook just sent invites regarding the launching of what the company is calling their “New Home on Android” and April 4. There are a lot of speculation as to what kind of product Facebook will unveil on the 4th of April and it looks it’s more of a software than an actual hardware.
The software can be a new Android app that Facebook will integrate with the mobile OS as deep as it can; or a fork version of Android like what Amazon did with it’s Kindle line but more social and more Facebook in it – which is actually possible, since Android is open source that can be freely modified and distributed by device manufacturers, wireless carriers and enthusiast developers.
It’s not a secret that Facebook’s biggest challenge is in mobile and how to generate revenue out of those mobile user. This product/app/new software that Facebook will announce could fix all that and if this turns out to be a hit, then this will really… really… change the fortune of the Facebook as a company and the state of social media in general.
