Google’s Youtube is said to be to acquire live videogame streaming platform, Twitch.tv. The deal is said to be worth more than $1 billion in cash. Reported by Variety, it is said to be a done deal and it’s official announcement should be release soon.

Most people may not be familiar with Twitch, since it caters to people likes to watch other people play games, either for entertainment or they want to pick up some techniques from other gamers.

Twitch.Tv is an online service spun off from the Justin.tv. When Justin.tv launched in 2007, the site was divided into several content categories. The gaming category grew especially fast, and became the most popular content on the site. The company then decided to spin off the gaming content as Twitch.TV, inspired by the term twitch gameplay. By 2014, Twitch became so huge that the parent company was re-branded as Twitch Interactive.

It’s not surprising that Google/Youtube will be interested with Twitch, since the fastest growing category in Youtube itself is in gaming as well. Twitch.tv will be the second video streaming website that Google will be acquiring, since they acquired Youtube last 2006 for $1.65 billion.
