Earlier this month French workers won the “right to disconnect” from work related digital communications like email and smartphones. It looks like that is what Quezon City representative Winston Castelo wants for Filipino employees when he filed House Bill 4721.
The bill will amend the labor code of the Philippines and aims to grant employees the “right to disconnect” from any but not limited work related electronic communications after working hours. an employee will not be reprimanded, punished or subjected to any disciplinary action if one disregards a work-related communication sent.
Once implemented, the “right to disconnect” can help a Filipino employee from being overwhelmed by work demands and avoid “burnout” or stress from not being able to rest properly, which is a good things specially in this digital age.
