At ChinaJoy, the largest gaming and digital entertainment exhibition in China, HTC announced that they’re developing a standalone VR headset for China and built on its own VR content platform, Viveport. The headset will be called Vive Standalone, as a “premium” device and will run apps from HTC’s Viveport platform.
The VR headset looks similar to the headset that they developed with Google, the difference lies on the tracking technology and the VR platforms. HTC’s standalone headset will be using Snapdragon 835 chip, Qualcomm’s VR tracking tech and running on Viveport platform.
HTC did not provide much details on the standalone VR headset and no information regarding the release date and pricing for China but the company said that they want to release the all-in-one out in the U.S. before the end of 2017.
