As impressive as its specs, the iPhone X have a lot of new notable features. The screen is probably the most prominent component of a smartphone, iPhone X’s 5.8-inch Super Retina HD OLED Multi-Touch display will surely make heads turn. It is considered as the densest and brightes screen (625 nits) of an iPhone and features True Tone which supports HDR 10 and Dolby Vision.
After the screen, sometimes the main feature that users look for in a smartphone is its camera, if it has a great camera then you can be sure that the phone is a “must-have”.
The 7-megapixel TrueDepth camera will be the main focus in the Iphone X, since it will be responsible for the Face ID, Apple’s facial recognition/authentication system.
Here’s how Face ID works;
Face ID projects more than 30,000 invisible IR dots. The IR image and dot pattern are pushed through neural networks to create a mathematical model of your face and send the data to the secure enclave to confirm a match, while adapting to physical changes in appearance over time. All saved facial information is protected by the secure enclave to keep data extremely secure, while all of the processing is done on-device and not in the cloud to protect user privacy. Face ID only unlocks iPhone X when customers look at it and is designed to prevent spoofing by photos or masks.
Plus the demo that Apple did on stage is more than just trying to trick Face ID with a photo.
Of cource we cannot forget the redesigned dual 12-megapixel rear camera system of the iPhone X, now with dual optical image stabilization. The dual camera system uses wide-angle (ƒ/1.8 aperture) and telephoto camera (ƒ/2.4 aperture) for a stunning photos and videos. It now supports new HEIF and HEVC image and video formats, and can capture in low light and better HDR photos. It also has a new quad LED True Tone Flash that offers twice the uniformity of light and includes Slow Sync, resulting in more uniformly lit backgrounds and foregrounds.
A11 Bionic Chip is the most powerful and smartest chip that Apple has develop for its smartphone, with a neural engine that’s capable of up to 600 billion operations per second. A11 chip is work horse behind Apple’s machine learning, Augmented reality features.
Also on the iPhone X, iMessages users will now be able to use Animoji, these are animated-emojis that uses TrueDepth camera and A11 Bionic to captures and analyzes over 50 different facial muscle of the users and animates those expressions in a dozen different Animoji, including a panda, unicorn and robot.
I can just see users going crazy and having fun with Animoji.
The iPhone X is designed for a wireless future, which is what Apple have been preaching for a long time. Using Qi wireless charging tech, the same wireless tech that LG, Samsung, One Plus is using. Finally one charger to rule them all. This also means that a port-less iPhone may soon be in the works.
The iphone X will be available in silver and space gray in 64GB and 256GB models, price will be $999 (USD) for the 64 GB model and $1,149 (USD) for the 256 GB model. Pre-order starts on Friday, October 27 in more than 55 countries and it will be in stores November 3, 2017.
