In the wake of Maquidato’s case, a Grab model driver, who’s car was hijacked and shot dead, Grab drivers will soon require users to show a valid ID before using the service, specially those riding in the wee hours of night time.
Grab said, “Before starting the trip, our driver-partners may ask to show a personal identification card (ID) to verify your identity specially during night shift hours.” and that the information shown to the driver will be used for verification purpose only.”
Grab also said that “they are developing on a solution that would decrease the chances of carnapping incidents involving Transport Network Vehicle Services (TNVS). We are also working losely with the Philippine National Police – Highway Patrol Group to ensure that justice will be served and perpetrators be put behind bars. ”

According to Rappler, Maquidato’s case which is still open, “Gerardo Amolato Maquidato Jr who was shot and killed evening of Thursday, October 26, by unidentified suspects who booked and rode as regular passengers. The unidentified suspects who also took the Maquidato’s car.”
Gerardo Amolato Maquidato Jr. was one of Grab Philippines’ driver awardees, recognized for giving a free ride to a sick passenger.
