Flipkart to release their own smartphone called Billion Capture+ smartphone

Flikart, India’s largest eCommerce store has announced that they will release their own smartphone called the Billion Capture+ smartphone. The Billion Capture+ smartphone is spec’ed and priced as a mid level smartphone.

Powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 Processor, it has a 5.5 inch FHD Display, dual 13 MP camera and a 3500 mAh battery. The Billion Capture+ will be in Desert Golder and Mystic Black colors, and will be available on 15th of November with a starting price of Indian Rupee (INR) 13,999 or around $214.

Flikart will also be manufacturing the Billion Capture+ smartphone in a more patriotic approach. Unlike the established Chinese brands Xiaomi and Oppo, the Billion Capture+ smartphone will be manufactured in India. Flipkart co-founder Sachin Bansal said that, “By making these products in India, we will create an impact on both the manufacturing ecosystem in the country and the skills of young workers. Doing this in fast-growing, high-tech segments like smartphones will magnify this impact on the nation.”

In announcing the Billion Capture+ smartphone, Flikart is clearly taking a page from Amazon’s playbook but it remains to be seen if the Billion Capture+ will share the fate of Amazon’s Fire phone or be successful in its own merit.
